It was 29th of March this year while I was having my breakfast and looking at the images of people, daily wage earners, workers in India moving from one place to another without food or security I tried to enquire about the situation in my area and the question came to my mind as what am I doing for such people and  I was silent with a feeling of regret as I was hardly doing anything. My brother suggested me to do something as it is not a time to be sitting helplessly. After having said that he transferred some amount in my bank account. His words stayed in my mind and all the memories of the helpless families. The first thing came to my mind was food and how to provide them with basic food essentials. The image of those families was the tipping point.

I thought somebody has to rise up otherwise we would not be able to forgive ourselves.

In the beginning, I just posted on my social media accounts that we are collecting some money for the few hungry families.  The response I received was more than encouraging. It was like people were waiting for me to ask them for money for this cause. After getting good responses from different social media I started telling people personally about our work even this time the response was way above my expectation. A good number of friends I talked to personally regarding the initiative have come forward for the help.

This much amazing response of the people motivated a lot and led us to come out with this initiative called, Pehel, with the stated aim of “A Fight Against Hunger”. Currently, including me, there are five people in the organization.

With the amount of RS 60000, till now we have been able to purchase around 85 ration packets. Each packet costs RS 730. Our every ration packet contains 5Kg Flour, 5KG Rice, 1KG Onion, 1KG Potato, 1KG Sugar.

With this small gesture, I did learn a great lesson that “When God blesses you financially we must expand our tables” We all have the potential and humanity to help the most marginalized and vulnerable sections of the society who are coping up with basic food and livelihoods in such a pandemic situation.
