COVID-19, Social Distancing and Nepali Robotics

The novel coronavirus has silenced the world and people are compelled to support social distancing. At this time, we stood forward and built a robot to help the medical team to withstand the novel coronavirus. We hope our small contribution will benefit the medical workers to fight with COVID-19.

In the future, we believe that this project will prove to be an important step towards increasing the use of robots in Nepal. Using our robot, we can easily send food and medicines to the patient’s bed in the hospital, without any help from health workers or relatives. This will certainly control the rapid transmission of coronavirus among medical team members and relatives. Its major goal is to treat patients with COVID-19, its suspects, and patients of other diseases.

We are also trying to build an automatic temperature checking device by setting a thermal gun on this robot. Mr. Krishna Keshavji is actively working on it and we are fairly optimistic. The robot has already been tested at the Armed Police Force (APF) hospital.

We have displayed the model to the Ministry of Health officials and they are happy with our work. Looking at its positive impact, they want its mass production ready as soon as possible. They have assigned us to continue the work with a promise to give their full support. They mentioned that in the current time to keep up with social distancing, the use of robots is necessary and useful. We have planned to hand over one of our robots to Shukraraaj Tropical & Infectious Disease Hospital, Teku.
