I was 14 when I got an important call. The call was from Kathmandu District Football Association and they were offering me a chance to play the Ncell cup under 16. I was beyond excited but my hopes were grounded by financial constraint. This chance was the single glimmer of hope for me to reach my dream. The distance between my dream and me was a pair of football boots, which I couldn’t buy.
Fortunately for me, destiny intervened. My mother, who saw me looking sad, gave me money to buy a pair of boots. With Rs. 600 in my hands and gratitude in my heart I walked into the store and set my eyes on a pair of sega boots. It was hardly anything special compared to other boots but for me, to purchase it at that point in time meant everything.
With everything set, I was ready to play. Our first match was with a boys sports club. The match was a draw and a tiebreaker was held. And the game was in sudden death. My opponent had missed the first penalty and I was on the spot now. The pressure was on but I kept myself calm. I scored the goal and we won! I got the ‘Man of the match’ title that day.
Our next match was with the most famous team of Nepal, the Himalyan Sherpa Club. We were very nervous but we still had hope. With our sheer determination and effort, we won against them. I scored a hat-trick. The score was 1-3 and we won. I got the title for ‘man of the match’ again. My photo was published in Kantipur newspaper. I was getting appreciation from all the people who watched the match. I had made everyone happy. I had made my mother happy.
With this we were ready to compete in the semi final with the toughest team in the game, against kdfa. Unfortunately we lost the game 1-0. I was injured in the first half of the game. We did give our best hitting 4 shots in the cross bar. Even though we lost, the spectators appreciated our attempt and we had won their respect.
After the game, I thanked my mother for her support and her trust in me. I would have never reached this far ahead without her. I also thanked my sega boot for giving me hope throughout the tournament. When I had felt like I had lost without even joining the game, this pair of boots had given me hope. With every obstacle that I faced, it was there to remind me that everything was going to be okay.
So this is the story of my sega boots which I will cherish forever.
