It is an unfortunate moment globally, to see this COVID 19 pandemic spreading like a gust of wind. Bhutan is a small country but with the great leadership of His Majesty the King and the government, we feel safer. We feel that our small country is very well prepared.
As I sit near the window, in my home, I am sad but proud. Sad-because we have to undergo such a pandemic. Never did I think that we would ever have to face such a crisis. But I am proud that I am a Bhutanese. We came together united- in the governance and even in social media. Every Bhutanese at this hour thinks alike.
More than anything, His Majesty has time and again proved to be our guiding star-the light in the darkness. We the people have no words to express our gratitude to our king. Even the government under the leadership of Prime Minister is working tirelessly. People at the frontline deserve our salute. Volunteers, donors and everyone here are just amazing.
Every individual is coming forward in their own capacities to support the government. While some donated cash, others came forward with kind. Farmers also came forward with vegetables and dairy products. Bhutanese have showed utmost solidarity at this hour.
I as a student of Paro college of education, where I am a future teacher in training, I couldn’t hold back my spirit of volunteerism. I wanted to join the nation in combating the pandemic anyhow. I am serving as a focal person of Youth Peer network group, commonly known as Y-PEER in my college. I, the members of this group and even the non-members started to contribute and could collect Nu 11608/- ( Eleven Thousand Six Hundred and Eight only) in two days. The amount is small but we donated with big heart for our people and country. We have no idea how the amount we donated will be used, but we feel the pride of belongingness. We are happy.
Today, I take the opportunity to thank all my friends for donating the amount with pure heart and open mind. We as a Y PEER member are already bonded in our spirit to fight sexual and reproductive health issues and this time we came together for another national call. We pay our special thanks to the department of youth and supports for always supporting us.
Lastly, we stand with our king, government and country in fighting the COVID 19 pandemic. May triple gem bless this pious land. May the virus disappear from the world and people be safe. Our prayers and regards.
Thank you.
