Field work during the COVID-19 Outbreak

My name is Jasmin and I am a humanitarian worker from Bosnia and Herzegovina, involved in various social and Youth organisations since I was 15.

For a few years now my work has mostly been within the Red Cross here in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where I work as a Youth Coordinator and Coordinator for Public health activities. Red Cross in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the biggest voluntary network with more than 2000 youth volunteers.

We are mostly working on First aid education, trainings, and humanitarian and social activities, but from the beginning of the Migration crisis we have also gottem engaged with the Health and humanitarian assistance for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers.

Usually we are trained for many things and situations and always improving our response for natural disaster, but the COVID-19 outbreak was something new for everyone. From the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic we needed to adjust our activities and response extremely fast.

From that moment, 870 youth volunteers were engaged and formed Mobile teams who were supporting the most endangered groups of our citizens such as persons over 65 years old.

While we had a lockdown in our country we were almost the only organisation which was working hard to respond to every call for support. Although it was very risky to be on the frontline, it was important in order to provide special care and assistance for our citizens.

Very soon we designed one campaign called “Guardians of Humanity” and the people and all media recognized our dedicated work at the field.
Since then we are still running our traditional activities and supporting migrants in a very special circumstance which makes me proud, especially because the youth are showing that they are a very important part of the society.
